Extension of Illinois shelter-in-place and Chicago Park District closures freeze permit process

As Governor Pritzker has ordered to extend the shelter-in-place through May 30 in Illinois, and Mayor Lightfoot has closed the lakefront and all major Chicago parks, including Lincoln Park, the opening day of our Lincoln Park outdoor market has been postponed. You can read more about the postponement of the Lincoln Park outdoor market here

While Green City Market cannot open in Lincoln Park on Saturday, May 2, we will still provide a lineup of engaging activities and community resources you can participate in right from home! All of our virtual opening day activities are free and open to the public.

Club Sprouts | Homemade chalk paint activity

Green City Market Sous Chef Educator Kristina Navarro will be leading a homemade chalk paint activity that you can complete at home using just corn starch, water, food coloring, a muffin tin, and paint brushes!

This activity will be pre-recorded and posted to FacebookInstagram, and Twitter at 8 am on Saturday, May 2. The worksheet will be available on our Club Sprouts page after 8 am on Saturday.

All-levels yoga class with Yoga Six

We've teamed up with our friends at Yoga Six Lincoln Park to bring you your Saturday morning yoga class at home! This is an all-levels, free class.

This class will take place from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, May 2. Sign up here; you must pre-register by 8:30 on Saturday. The class link will be emailed to you 15 minutes prior to the start of class.

Story time | Live stream

Green City Market Director of Development Mandy Moody will be reading a selection of three stories that highlight themes centered on food, farming, and sustainability:

    • On the Farm, At the Market by G. Brian Karas
    • Julia, Child by Kyo Maclear
    • Compost Stew by Mary McKenna Siddals

Story time will take place from 10:15 am on Saturday, May 2 on Instagram Live. Follow Green City Market on Instagram to tune in!

Virtual volunteer session + hangout

Join us for a virtual volunteering session and hangout hosted by our Market Coordinator Nick Bergstrom! Volunteers will have an opportunity to connect over Google Hangouts and learn about virtual volunteer opportunities. We will also be writing thank you letters to Green City Market's 55+ family farmers during this virtual volunteering session.

This session will take place from 11 am to noon on Saturday, May 2. Please fill out this form to pre-register; you will receive the Google Hangout link 30 minutes prior to this session.

Cooking Demo with Certified Cheese Professional Cara Condon of Goose Island Beer Company

Yes, "Certified Cheese Professional" is a real job title. And while you may not be a Certified Cheese Professional in your day job, your lunch break has never been better with this demo from Goose Island!

Mark your calendar and tune in to Goose Island's Ingrain Magazine Instagram Story, @ingrain, for our first virtual demonstration of the summer season on Tuesday, May 5 at noon in recognition of Giving Tuesday Now. Cara will be making a Rampch (ramp + ranch) dip and assembling a crudité platter that will make even the fussiest eaters love veggies — perfect for a work from home lunch and great for kids.
