Malik Coburn (He/They)

Volunteer Manager

Bio

Malik Coburn (he/they) joins Green City Market as our first Volunteer Manager—a Chicago (Hyde Park) native who has built his career around welcoming people in and working together on things that matter.

His path began at music festivals, guiding Chicagoans in composting and waste diversion, and later leading volunteer crews on farms throughout California and Oregon. That early spark grew into food access work across Cook County, including coordinating more than 1,000 volunteers during the 2024 DNC and serving as Board President of Rhythm Seed Farm.

Malik listens closely, moves with intention, and keeps the work grounded in why it started: farmers, community, and food access as one shared mission.

He holds a degree in Integrated Marketing & Sustainability from the University of Redlands and a Permaculture Design Certificate from Earth Activist Training.

When the markets close, you can usually find him hiking, browsing a record store, or steeping a good cup of tea.
