Originally opened in London in 2006 by childhood friends Will Beckett and Huw Gott, Hawksmoor has carved a niche as a world-class dining destination known for its rigorous standards for ingredients and employment ethics. Named the “#1 Steakhouse in the World” by World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants in 2022, Hawksmoor’s menu highlights steaks from ethically reared cattle, sustainably sourced seafood, and a progressive cocktail program, twice awarded “Best International Restaurant Bar” at Tales of the Cocktail’s Spirited Awards. The steakhouse holds a B Corp Certification, a three-star Green Restaurant Association rating, and has been recognized as a Best Company to Work For for over a decade. Since its debut, Hawksmoor has expanded across the U.K., Ireland, and the U.S., with its latest location opening in Chicago in summer 2024. Located in the historic LaSalle Street Cable Car Powerhouse, formerly Michael Jordan’s Restaurant in River North, the 16,500-square-foot, three-story space was designed by Hawksmoor’s design team, led by Mai-Yee Ng, in collaboration with U.K. interior architecture firm Macaulay Sinclair. The space blends restored original features with new design inspired by the “Golden Age of Travel.” Alongside their signature dry-aged, charcoal-grilled steaks, the Chicago menu introduces dishes reflecting the city’s culinary history with a bar program showcasing local spirits and a focus on Irish whiskey.
