Executive Chef, Farmhouse Chicago
Garrett VanBergen was born and raised in a western suburb of Chicago. His love for creating unique dishes started with his first job during high school working at a local pizzeria where he would create his own specials using all the fresh ingredients on hand. Attending culinary arts school, Garrett was able to master the culinary techniques while combining them with his love of flavor. He takes great pride in his kitchen at Farmhouse and wants every guest to enjoy eating his dishes as much as he has enjoyed creating them. Garrett currently lives in Chicago with his fiancée, Jordana, and their rescue dog, Ember.
What inspired you to get involved with Green City Market?
I have been working with chefs all of my career that have been very involved in the market. I always looked up to that, and now I have the opportunity to be that influence to my younger chefs and cooks. I can't wait to get them excited about the farmers market and all the amazing product we have access to.
What’s the most delicious thing you’ve ever purchased from the GCM?
Tie between Green Acres Asian Lettuce Mix and heirloom tomatoes from Nichols Farm during peek season.
What’s your favorite Junior Board event?
A (Mostly) Veggie Affair. Last year, I was a chef at the event and had a blast.
